Today I submitted my story “The Kachidoki Maru” to the Writers’ Digest writing contest. This is a non-fiction story, and I wrote it well over a year ago. I sent it around to a few friends and family members, then parked it in my hard drive in the same way some people park beautifully restored automobiles in a garage, and never drive them again.

I like the piece, though. And it seems interesting. It’s the mysterious story of a Japanese transport ship during World War II, and it has what I consider an interesting and very personal twist at the end.

It needed tweaking, but I love tweaking. And it needed cutting in order to make the maximum word count. Though it may sound strange, I also love cutting.

Fingers crossed!!!!
